When Multiculturalism goes too far.

In 1915, Theodore Roosevelt, regarded by many as the father of progressivism in America addressed the Knights of Columbus saying, "The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities."

Four years later, in a letter to the president of the American Defense Society Roosevelt wrote...

We should insist that if the immigrant who comes here does in good faith become an American and assimilates himself to us he shall be treated on an exact equality with every one else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed or birth-place or origin.

But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American and nothing but an American. If he tries to keep segregated with men of his own origin and separated from the rest of America, then he isn't doing his part as an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. . . We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language, for we intend to see that the crucible turns our people out as Americans, of American nationality, and not as dwellers in a polyglot boarding-house; and we have room for but one soul loyalty, and that is loyalty to the American people.
Now compare these words of absolute truth to the disgusting and pointless ramblings of Jimmy Carter...

"We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams."

How nice. It just makes me feel all fuzzy inside. I think I feel a tear.

Teddy Roosevelt got it right, 100%. Yet, somehow something tells me his vision for a diverse yet unified America, with an emphasis on Americanism, is failing miserably.

"...not as dwellers in a poly-got boarding house." I'm afraid that is a perfect way to describe much of America today. Too many immigrants, legal and illegal, come to this country and view themselves not as an American but simply as a guest. They have no desire to become an American. They want nothing to do with America. We have America's second largest city that could easily pass as a Mexican city. Is this a good thing? Those on the left would say yes. It is what makes America great, being tolerant and acceptant of all walks of life. But in their drunken stupor, they fail to realize the lingering danger to American ideals.

I agree wholeheartedly that the greatness of America is the idea that all walks of life are welcome here, to live, breathe, prosper, and pursue happiness within our borders. BUT, as Teddy Roosevelt said, that comes with the requirement that you must assimilate into our culture. Why is this so hard to comprehend for some?

Based on the opinions of the leftists I've talked to, assimilation is a virtual non issue. For the life of me I don't know why. It's as if they view our country in terms of ideology and not tangible definitions such as language, borders, and culture as Micheal Savage put it. But then again, should we expect anything less from those whose entire world view is driven by the dangerous philosophy of universal relativism?

What's worse than the uber relativist leftists who lick the backend of the ungrateful immigrant class? The ungrateful immigrant class themselves. How do I know they are ungrateful? I know some of them. And I've debated countless illegal immigrants online. They view America as an evil nation, emphasize our dark points of history (slavery, Native American genocide), wish for the dissolving of our borders, view all Americans as fat, lazy, slobs, put their native nationality before ours, fly their native flags, and want to see us lose the wars overseas among other things.

Yet, they live here and partake in the wonderful opportunity that America has to offer on a daily basis.

Would these be the "dwellers of a poly-got boarding house"/"tangle of squabbling nationalities" as Theodore Roosevelt put it? Without a doubt yes. This picture is a perfect illustration of that...

Now a typical left wing Democrat would have you believe people like myself and all other conservatives are cold hearted, bigoted, and "anti immigrant" as they so often like to say. Nothing could be further from the truth. We just don't like that "mosaic" Jimmy Carter was talking about because more and more it's looking not like a mosaic but a splatter of dog doo doo on a canvas. Then again liberal contemporary artists would say that's wonderful art. Oh boy here we go with the relativist thing again...

Look, diversity and multiculturalism are a great thing. Having different cultures and traditions within our great nation make us unique. It's why so many people are drawn to America. But those who so dearly want to come here should view themselves as an American first, not second.

We should see more of this...
And less of this...

Democrats and liberals need to quit bending over backwards to this enemy within. They are an enemy both to America and to America loving immigrants. Quit bowing down to the idol of multiculturalism. America comes first!

Hack, this is a terrific post!
Maintaining a tie to the "old country" to sustain friendships and former associations is understandable. Not shifting loyalty to the country of your new citizenship is contrary to the sworn oath and is hypocrisy.
Get on board or go home.
