Yea, that last bit in your post Hack.
Last I heard it was 22 assistants, and other first ladies have had a couple at most.
And with 22 assistants, Michele STILL can't figure out how to woo more than 0.050 % of the population. (I may have overstated her popularity with that 0.050..)

The problem with your post is that it is a lie.
Laura Bush had, in fact, the same number of assistants as does Mrs. Obama. Laura Bush had between 24 and 26 assistants by the end of her husband's second term.
And other First Ladies had even more--the very elegant Jackie Kennedy had 40, Betty Ford had about the same number as Laura Bush and Mrs. Obama.
Mrs. Obama is not extravagant in her staffing. She has, in fact, the same number, maybe fewer, than Laura Bush.
There's only one glaring reason that the rightwingers would bring up this subject--a subject that was never talked about for previous First Ladies.
Let's see. I wonder why wingers are spreading lies and disinformation about Michelle Obama.

Hey Shaw, you want to hear something that will blow your liberal mind? I never said anything about Laura Bush having less staffers and if she did have as many as Michelle I would be just as much against it.
The glaring reason you speak of that wasn't found in other first ladies is political ideology and behavior, nothing more.
I also find these women attractive- Halle Berry. Beyonce. Lena Horne. Alicia Keys. Tyra Banks.

It's not just you, Hack, that's been criticizing the current First Lady, it's just about every conservative blogger. My question is why is this an issue when you yourself say you weren't interested in it when Mrs. Bush was First Lady?
It is the conservatives who hammer on this issue about staff now that Mrs. Obama is First Lady. Why didn't they look into it while Laura Bush was FLOTUS?
PS. There are plenty of men who think Mrs. Obama is smart and beautiful. She doesn't appeal to you? Fine.
But the size of her, um, staff, should have nothing to do with it.
Shaw, the size of her personal staff is really a subissue. Most of the conservatives that I know really have an issue with her personality and things she has said in the past as well as her spending habits and her endless vacationing. She appears extremely out of touch with Americans during a time when most Americans are hurting.
And I still have not talked to a male, conservative or liberal, who finds her attractive.
Most conservatives have had no problem with Hillary Clinton or other Democratic first ladies, much like most liberals didn't really have a problem with Laura Bush during the 8 Bush years.
It is the things Michelle Obama has said that really irk people. Things like...
"living in the White House is hell..."
"For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country."
"Everyone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more."
"We are a country that is just downright mean."

My problem with her is that she is an advocate of the redistribution of wealth (s*cialism) and absolute control of the government (facs*sm) & the using the working class in order to gain and maintain absolute power (commun*sm). I am not getting into looks, etc. That has nothing to do with it. Anyone taking issue with those things are missing the point altogether.
